GSCE Citizenship Studies
Course Content:
Citizenship Studies is the study of the world around us and aims to motivate and inspire students to engage within society and issues that arise from living in a multicultural society. It examines questions of power in society, individual and collective identities, how individuals can influence decisions and issues relating to how people and institutions interact. At Adeyfield we prepare the students to take the Pearson Citizenship GCSE examinations, which covers content and issues that directly affects the students lives and futures.
Mode of Assessment:
Students will sit two final written papers at the end of Year 11 of 1 hour 45 minutes each. Both papers are equally weighted at 50%:
- Paper 1 assesses Living Together in the UK, Democracy and Law & Justice.
- Paper 2 assesses Power & Influence and Taking Citizenship Action.
The papers have a range of assessment techniques including multiple choice answers, source based answers and extended answers.
Whilst the Taking Citizenship Action is an examined part of the course it also involves an extended group project where students work in teams to research their chosen issues and then deliver a social-action project or create an event to raise awareness and offer solutions to their chosen issue.
