Adeyfield School - Business Enterprise College & Applied Learning Specialism

Welcome to the Adeyfield School Website

Dear Parents and Carers

This term is flying by, yet so much has happened already…

Following on from our monitoring visit by Herts for Learning, the feedback on our journey since September was glowing. The changes, improvements and progress was duly recognised and acknowledged.

John Daniells visited 14 lessons, met a number of students and staff and discussed with Senior Leaders the impact of changes made since September. He was impressed with the progress we have made so far in our school improvements, and we are excited about the next step in our journey. The full report can be found on the website. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff and students for all their continued hard work and support in working together to move the school forwards.

Year 8 enjoyed a fantastic day on 'The Real Game'; an opportunity for students to explore the world of work and learn about the labour market. Each student (and staff member involved) was allocated a career for the day. It was great to see so many take their roles seriously dressing to impress for their role! Having spent time looking at the big dream, students then investigated the reality that their budget would allow, and thought about how they could adjust their spending to fit their income. We welcomed Clare Ding from Quantum Care; Rob Walkley, Civil Servant and former parliamentary candidate, and our very own Mr Reid to speak to our students about their own career pathways and experiences. We are hugely grateful to them for giving up their time to join us for the morning. Students had an opportunity to ask questions and hear about their fields of expertise. The day finished with students creating their own career plan, helping them focus on the next steps of their journey towards their dream job. A huge thank you to Miss Russell for all her hard work in planning and delivering the day and to the Year 8 team for supporting the students throughout a very productive day. It was great to hear their stories, enthusiasm and thoughts as I saw them at the gate at the end of the school day.

Year 11 are well underway with preparations for their exams. A drop down PHSEE session was delivered by Mrs Cline and Miss Walker to help students begin to plan their time. With only 58 school days and counting to go until the exams begin, students are encouraged to attend the subject support sessions delivered each week. Further details can be found overleaf.

The next round of mocks begin on 11 March and we wish students well as they begin to prepare for this. We are excited to launch GCSE Pod this week for Year 11. GCSE Pod is an online platform to help home learning and revision. Further information is to follow, but we believe this investment to be a good tool to help support our young learners as they prepare for their exams.

Year 11 drama students have their final practical exam this week. We wish them all the very best and good luck as they take to the stage for their performances.

A group of Year 8 students attended Watford FC with Ms Sandford at the launch of their Business & Enterprise Project. Students will be working with Watford Education over the next 12 weeks looking at exploring the world of business and enterprise.

This coming week sees outside speakers delivering sessions to Sixth Form and Year 7 & 8 students. Sixth Form will be welcoming visiting speakers to talk about Mental Health and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy support available in the area. Year 7 & 8 will benefit from the new PSHEE workshop investigating knife crime.

On Friday we welcome Rosemary Hill, an experienced TV and Broadcasting Director in to work with our Year 10 and Sixth Form media students. We are grateful to Directors in Schools Charity for being able to provide us with this opportunity.

With half term already fast approaching, as you can see from this edition, school life remains as busy as ever.
