GCSE Spanish builds on the themes studied in Years 7, 8 and 9, but develops studnets’ variety and complexity of language so that they are able to express themselves on a variety of topics, including current social and global issues. Students will develop their spoken and written skills to a level where they would be able to deal with a range of real life situations in the countries where Spanish is spoken. Students will complete a 2 year course to gain a full GCSE.
This GCSE ensures that there is an emphasis on being able to use Spanish independently and for potential real life situations. A GCSE in Spanish is an asset to any student who wants to develop their communication and higher order thinking skills. Once you have learned one language effectively then you will have the skills to learn another if you choose. In an age of increased globalisation there are greater opportunities than ever before to work abroad in the future. Students will have the potential advantage over other candidates for employment in the many companies which are either international or have international links in the UK. A student who opts for a modern foreign language shows motivation and commitment to a subject which can be both challenging and rewarding. These are qualities which are highly desirable to educational institutions and future employers.
