The Adeyfield Academy

Anti-Bullying

Falling out with friends is a natural part of growing up, but whilst this does happen, we are proud to say that bullying - the continuation of intentionally unkind or discriminatory behaviour towards another student - is rare at The Adeyfield Academy.

However, when it does occur we aim to act swiftly with an emphasis on restorative justice, ensuring the bullying ceases and there is support for the victim. For information about how bullying is dealt with, please see our Anti-Bullying Policy.

Students are taught from their first day at The Adeyfield Academy how important being a member of our community is and that the care and thought we have for others is at the heart of our school ethos and values. In addition, anti-bullying is taught explicitly in PSHCE, our form time programme and across the curriculum in all subjects. Anti-bullying is viewed as high profile at all times with posters in all form rooms and active participation in Anti-Bullying campaigns.

Where students have fallen out, or there are peer difficulties, our pastoral system is readily available to support - Form Tutors, Heads of Year and our inclusion centre.  At The Adeyfield Academy there is always someone to talk to if there is a problem. Our students have a strong sense of justice and there will always be other students to support anyone experiencing difficulties, in a circle of friends.

Student Voice and our weekly 'Every Second Counts' feedback forum ensures we are made aware if there are any recurring issues that we need to address.

If your child is experiencing any difficulties with peers at school, then please do not hesitate to contact your son/daughter's  Head of Year.

We have also set up a dedicated student email system for students to use to report any instances of bullying or indeed any concerns which they may have. This will be picked up by a member of the pastoral team. This operates both in and out of term time.

If a student has any concerns or worries about school, please email us: student@adeyfield.herts.sch.uk

Anti-Bullying Conference

Our annual ATLAS Trust Anti-Bullying Conference brings together our Anti-Bullying Captains and Ambassadors from years 7 - 10 across the ATLAS Trust schools during Anti-Bullying Week.

The purpose of the conference is  to develop a consistent approach to Anti-Bullying across the ATLAS Trust through student voice, collaboration, Anti-Bullying training on what bullying is, the different types of bullying and what the difference between banter and bullying is.

Students worked together to unanimously create our trust Anti-Bullying Pledge - 'United as One - Kindness costs nothing, but means EVERYTHING' and create a patchwork quilt with compassionate messages to pledge to be an upstander.

A short video delivering our shared Anti-Bullying message from our Anti-Bullying Conference can be viewed below:
